Best Software?
Hey dudes, I was just wondering what antivirus/firewall/spyware programs you guys would recommend, because I just unistalled AVG free as it is bollocks and I need a GOOD one. Preferably one that is free. Firewall apps/ and spyware removers will also be considered.
(Apparently AVG was not finding all the viruses in my computer and that had something to do with me not being able to access some websites on Firefox )

Re: Best Software?
I never was a fan of AVG either.
For a long time I used Avira Antivir but now I am really starting to like Comodo Internet Security 3.5.

You could also look into Alwil avast!. I heard it should be good also.

Both are free

I'm using Norton Internet Security 2007 for almost 2 years now, no complains. It never blocked any of my online games, yet its pc resources consuming if You don't have relatively new machine I wouldn't recomend it.
- its a combo Antivir + Firewall ,and I heard that new version 2009 is much less pc resources consuming.

I've Zone alarm + IPcop running in an old Pc , this is a antivir + Firewall combo.
If you are just a normal pc user get Kapersky or Avast .

Spybot - Search and Destroy : "anti spyware" ; free
Ad-Aware : "anti malware" ; free (for these purposes)
A source that I cannot remember said that Spybot is good for antivirus. It looks like its being thorough when it checks for crap, but I can't remember if it has ever found anything. But there might be a conflict with Ad-Aware because Spybot seems to be mysteriously deleted every few days so I only use it if I can be arsed to reinstall it, and I can't, so I don't. Ad-Aware gets rid of pesky cookies faster than cnik in a bakery, and has found the odd trojan. Most of the time it just picks up tracking cookies.

Re: Best Software?
Ive also heard that there was some kind of Norton Gamers Edition, which seems to take only a small fraction of the resources, might be worth to take a look into that one

Re: Best Software?
Hey thanks for the suggestions guys. I decided to use Avast but I'm not so sure about the way it has multiple scanners for different "modules" of my computer (I don't know if this has any memory-related effect on my comp - its pretty old, only 256mb of ram running xp ). I stay away from Norton as it can really dig itself into your computer making it impossible to remove and besides it isn't free last time I checked. I might decide to use Antivir later, oh and I got spybot and Adaware working at the same time (silly mnk.).

Re: Best Software?
If u are not IT specialist, then Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is the best choice.
But it eats a lot of resources, so u need a powerful pc.
If u know more, then Outpost Firewall Pro, i love him for his flexibility of options.
