Indeed, I would expect Gloom or Saddam to do that but I guess they're too busy protesting on the streets. Keep up the good work guys xD
I'll make a quick resume for what's been happening lately and bring those who don't know up to speed:
As it seems many of the EU countries have already signed the ACTA bill, in fact there are only a couple of countries left that are yet to sign it.
However, there is still time for action, since the official voting for the bill will be held in June.
To know more about the ACTA bill and how you can fight against it, visit this website http://www.laquadrature.net/acta !
Also, feel free to use the lil' banner I've made to show your support

Re: SOPA: The Bill That Wants to Break Your Internet
Heh teh irony is that I have to file complaints against pirate sites as part of my current legal job ^^...and ofc I had to read ACTA throughout since I mainly specialise in IT laws, conclusions? Well the whole act is very general which is typical to international agreements and it doesn't have to lead to intensification of goverments actions against internet users. If any1 is bored enough I suggest reading carefully Your country curent copyright act and similar acts for ex. Act on Rendering Electronic Services, You will probably notice that most of the tools to fight the piracy is already there, most goverments didn't need to sign ACTA to fight it. Anyways I might be mistaken but I predict that there will be no drastic changes after they sign it. Especially because ACTA is aimed at web hosts not some individuals.Devil wrote:Anette wrote:Time to tell ppl about ACTA devil ;p

Maybe a few "public executions" as in megavideo/upload case and then the pirates will just find another way to continue their humble service.
Not that I approve ACTA (althou this may generate potential clients for me ) but unless you are some major web host or u have no idea what is "fair use" according to copyrights you shouldn't be terrified..
The whole anti-ACTA campaign has major positive quality, it shows politicians that internauts are a force to be reckoned with

Re: SOPA: The Bill That Wants to Break Your Internet
I think it is great they can now shut down websites based solely on suspicion on hosting copyrighted material. It is just what you need these days where piracy is as huge as it is. I sure hope they don't stop with megaupload, there are tons of sites that needs to be removed. Hopefully they will give FBI the right to monitor employees who work at such websites outside America also, like they did with megaupload. They don't deserve any privacy with a job like that.Gloom wrote:Especially because ACTA is aimed at web hosts not some individuals.

Re: SOPA: The Bill That Wants to Break Your Internet
@ Gloom: That is indeed ironic. But hey, at least we have someone working on the inside
And yes, I agree with you, it's not as bad as it appears. And even if this turns out really ugly the piracy won't stop. There will always be new ways to continue and I feel it will turn out butt-ugly for a lot of websites because hacker activity will most surely reach a new peak.

Here’s a tip for the do-it-yourself crowd: Go to your computer’s Start menu, and either go to “run” or just search for “cmd.” Open it up, and type in “ping [website address],”
Once you have the IP for a website, all you really need to do is enter it like you would a normal URL and hit enter/press go. Typing in “208.85.240.231” should bring you to the front page of AO3, for example, just as typing “174.121.194.34/dashboard” should bring you straight to your Tumblr dashboard. Since we’re obviously bracing for the worst case scenario which would involve you not being able to access the internet regularly, you should, save this list.
