WW2 movies
I enjoy watching WW2 movies from different countries as they always have a special angle american movies doesn't.
Since there are a lot of different nationalities here on the forum, I was just wondering if any of you know of some national WW2 movies that are really good?
I have ofc seen some danish but also german, czech, polish, french ones that I can remember of right now, maybe other countries also.
Any suggestions, also from the countries mentioned above (just not american unless it is rly rly rly special)?

Re: WW2 movies
The most recent foreign ww2 movie I've seen is "Brestskaya krepost", in English it's either Brest Fortress or Fortress of War. It depicts the defense of the Brest Fortress in the early part of the war as the Germans launched operation Barbarossa. I enjoyed it so I hope you and anyone else who tries it will like it as well. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1343703/
Re: WW2 movies
I have seen it, and was looking more for movies with american actors.RuBeLL wrote:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215750/
Doesn't Italy have any good ww2 movies?
I will check it out, thank you ^^FireBall wrote:The most recent foreign ww2 movie I've seen is "Brestskaya krepost", in English it's either Brest Fortress or Fortress of War. "ww2 movie" covers a broader term than name itself xD
Personaly I prefer ww movies that film the plot behind the war machinery, the one where you can see and smell pure fear xD like you're a part of it. Maybe because I dose myself with action outhere in the field (DM&schooly), and + I'm a war veteran babe
La vita è bella -- well, I'm 100% sure that you watched it, but maybe some of the lurkers here haven't. #1 ITA ww2 movie for me.
Pasqualino Settebellezze -- LOL awesome #2 ITA ww2 movie for me.
.. AND there is Captain America: The First Avenger on the other hand if you don't like the two above.

Re: WW2 movies
I know ww2 is a broad term, but anything related to it is what I am looking for as long as it's not just a "war movie". I am not sure how to describe what it is I am looking for, but I'm gonna list some I did like, maybe that will help understand what it is I am interested in:fear wrote:Anette wrote:

"The reader" its related to ww2 without really being about the war.
"The last train" which shows only how it was in one of the trains.
"Katyn" which shows an event from Poland, that I personally hadn't heard about before.
" A Woman in Berlin" shows how it was for the women after Berlin was "liberated" by Russians (If I remember correctly).
Now your movies.
I haven't seen the 2 Italian ones, but I don't understand how they can both have comedy in the genre. If they are funny, then it's not the type of movies I am looking for.
Captain America, is so far from what I want, I ain't gonna watch that ;p

I'm sorry for your loss then since these are not funny movies. Psychological yes, and almost every character on the world has somewhat you can call a sense of humor in dark situations, giving a hope by that or just taking things as they are. Now, main character in La vita e bella is very positive person and he can't bear the fact that he and his family can't escape death. Through the movie he shows fascinating strenght of will to charm and cheer ppl around his life and continues to do that until the end of this sad movie. Popcorn?

Re: WW2 movies
I just went on imdb and their main genres were listed as "comedy" that is why I asked, cause I obviously don't know the movies.
If you say they aren't comedies then that is a different thing.

Re: WW2 movies
Well Anette, I think you should watch "La vita e bella". I would never call it a funny movie . I saw this movie a long time ago and it left a strong impression on me.
