Hey guys,

I've been using windows ever since I've started using pcs and I'm still fond of it 'till this day. I have tried Linux a couple of times in school and what not but never really used it that much.

The fact that most Linux versions are free and open source, offering the possibility of changing it how you want was always a great advantage, but the lack of support for most games and some programs have hindered my efforts to really try this OS out.

However, lately I've been itching to get my hands deeper into Linux and see what comes out (especially since I've read that Steam was released on Linux and nvidia has released brand new and updated drivers, thus I'm guessing and hoping game developers are starting to bet on Linux more and more).

Anywho, I'm a novice at Linux and so I wanted to ask you guys, if there are any veterans here, what Linux version would you recommend and why. Also, which versions are the ones that are most compatible with hardware (in terms of drivers). I've looked around and there are a lot of choices, which is quite overwhelming at first xD

Get the latest Ubuntu. I've never had any problems with it.

I tried ubunutu, it is pretty easy, for normal users (those used to gui's and such from windows)
I just became too lazy to bother with getting stuff to work on it and went back to my xp ;p

Alright, thanks for all the replies guys and lazy lady. Smile

I did a bit of reading as well, also read the articles you suggested, Mnk (especially liked the way they were written, balls to it xD).

I've understood that regarding games, things have become "easier" and with some effort you can get some games running on Linux, but it's not that optimal.
I'll be giving Ubuntu and Mint a try anytime soon, while of course still keeping Windows around.
